You've just finished studying, getting your diploma or degree and thinking about, whether I should take up my masters, PhD or start working, settle down, get a job, marry and have children. These are the common thoughts that mingle in our minds. Do you feel inspired to make more than average, and buy all the things that you ever wanted in life or go out to travel?
Everyone has a choice to choose what they want to pursue or achieve in life. However, for those singles out there who are still thinking, then here are some of the things you could do to make money, while you're still pondering on the next stages of life. During these Covid-19 times, 580,000 families from the M40 have become part of the B40. Relative poverty in Malaysia has risen up to 8.4%.
For us graduates in Malaysia alone, by 2020 there are 292,400 unemployed graduates according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), an increase of 4.4% from 2019 which is 165,200 which was 3.9%. This is because, despite graduating, their need in the market is not much utilised, hence they are not demanded. It stems from the quality and relevancy of the education that they received.
While it is the fault of the government, it is true to the extent that we ourselves should not only rely on governments and financial support from.
A degree does not necessarily define what we are and what we do in life. There are many ways for us to generate income and generally become a successful person. In this competitive and difficult world, there is the need for survival and sustenance. It it is perhaps time for us to rethink and examine ourselves for the better.
Do know that we do not have to rush things, we should to it at a comfortable pace for ourselves. People have different paths in life, so it is best for us to reflect ourselves now and plan ahead for the future!
REMINDER:
All of these tips would not become a reality or even close to it, if do not have the passion, motivation and discipline to do so. We have to be consistent and implant great ambition to realise what we do. Focusing on money and the fame is important, but momentary, because the thing that we should strive the most is benefit society and continuously improve ourselves. Most of the time, our hobbies and interests are the ones that generate income.
Here's a short concise list of what we could do;
1) Online Content Creator
This is very vast an endless. You could create content on any platforms, while you get paid through advertisements, selling your merchandise, donations and sponsorships. This way, we are able to entertain, spread awareness and inform our audience about the world and benefit them with new information.
However, what is very important for this is that, you would need to master a few elements or aspects when you enter into this field. Among the most famous platforms right now are YouTube, Blogger, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook and etc.
i) Know your niche
ii) Know your audience
iii) Improve your content quality constantly
iv) Engage with your audience
v) Optimise your Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
vi) Consistent posts
vii) Promote your content by-cross posting it on different social media platforms
viii) Content which is creative, funny, innovative and helpful to society
2) Online Seller and COD / Drop-shipping
I have encountered so many acquaintances and people that I have observed who sell different kinds of goods online from food, to pre-loved items such as clothes, jewelry, watches and accessories and a bunch of other stuff. I noticed that they sell these goods on various platforms such as Lazada, Shopee, Mudah and even eBay.
A friend of mine is part of so many Whatsapp groups, that each group has many people. So if any person were to be interested to buy something from him, then imagine many groups texting him every single day. Another friend of mine once told that, he sold Malaysian noodles to people in America. He sold it at a very high price as compared to the ones locally.
If COD and drop-shipping, there is also extra income since you are the person delivering the goods directly to their front door. It is easy and convenient, as your consumers do not have to pick it up from another place or destination.
3) Freelancer, Copywriting, proofreading, composing literary works, do other people's assignments
People still rely online to get things done in text or writing. To be honest, everything involves writing in our daily lives. People read all the time. People will read, when they are interested on a particular topic or subject. Some people may not have the spare time to write or even edit their work, or may not be as skilled in that field.
That is where you can come in help in any way possible by checking their grammar, vocabulary, language and improve the quality of the content. You can also write stories, or other materials that would educate and benefit others!
Copywriting involves promoting advertisements through your writing, which is content directly aimed at making sales. This means, they are experts to garner more views and readers and clicks through Google Ads, email newsletters and Instagram posts.
4) Photography, Photoshop editor and Video-Editing
Let's face it, we live in a world where everyone is glued to their mobile phones and monitor of their PC or laptops. Not everyone are digitally-literate or have the basic knowledge on taking photos or creating videos. There will be companies that are interested in people to create promotional videos of their resorts or hotels, groom and bride for their wedding or photo-shoots for celebrities and famous individuals alike.
In any occasion or setting, there would always be opportunities in those regards. What is important is that we constantly learn more editing and photography skills along the way, invest in better equipment such as a new laptop, camera, lighting, greater storage capacity and microphone. People may also need you to decorate or design posters, banners and promotional posts to garner attention.
5) Teaching, tutoring, virtual assistant and coaching
I have also discovered some acquaintances who make money from online tuition or teach others on a particular discipline or subject. The world requires more people who are able to help others to become better and excel onward. This could be from any acquired knowledge or skill, as long as you are sincere and able to transmit the knowledge effectively.
Most of the time, and sometimes, it could be the fault of the students who did not focus in class. However, we should not put the blame primarily on your students. Perhaps, you did not teach your students effectively or did not find a better way to approach them.
I know someone who does this. At times, there would also be teachers or lecturers who may need some manpower to handle documents, clerical and manage their affairs while teaching. You could fill in the gap and ease their burden. The person I know helps the lecturers arrange and clean up clutter of documents and assist the lecturers with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
